Truth and Dare The Boyhood Adventures Collection edition by Nathanael Green LollyMarie Photography Children eBooks
Probably my favorite Green story to date. He melds summer camp, youthful exuberance and first love, with keen insight into the fears and perseptiveness of a truly average kid. Green has a great eye for subtle detail in the inner mechanics of a young boy's mind, and demonstrates an appreciation for the dilemma of aspiring to be both accepted and good. The protagonist is a delightful combination of puppet and hero, and the author even manages to slip a little surprise in the ending that will leave you smiling. A fine tale for that young one to read, who is struggling with doing the right thing at the risk of becoming the goat.Product details

Truth and Dare The Boyhood Adventures Collection edition by Nathanael Green LollyMarie Photography Children eBooks Reviews
Children will love this tale and learn much from it about how to act. Simon who is extremely shy is at summer camp. He has two problems. He male fellow campers have a game called Truth and Dare that causes the boys to be kicked out of the camp if they get caught. He doesn't want to play, but his turn is coming up. His second problem is that he has become enchanted by a girl at camp, but is scared to talk to her.
Not only doesn't he talk to her, but he accidentally hurts her repeatedly. One day, he becomes sick and throws up on her. On another day, he fell out of a tree while he was watching her, and broke her arm. On still another day he spilled ice cream on her. Unable to speak, he writes her a love letter, but shyly hides it in his bunk bed. His fellow bunkers find it and maliciously send it to the girl.
This is a fun story and children will enjoy reading how all these events transpire and what happens next.
Young boys, ages12-14 or so, reaching their adolescence, trying to act as adults, but often acting as children. The author, Nathanael Green, gives us a perfect story of these boys at summer camp.
Simon was a shy boy, good looking, intelligent, kind and wanted to be like the other guys. However, he lost his voice at times, when he was unprepared. Here at summer camp he was enjoying his summer, as long as attention was not paid to him. There was a select group of boys who met nightly to play 'Truth and Dare'. Someone, the victim was given the choice. Most boys chose 'Dare' and several of them were kicked out of camp. Simon didn't worry too much because there was a scapegoat, and it wasn't him. But, on this day, the scapegoat was sent home from camp, and Simon knew he was next.
Simon had a secret, and he was afraid it would be found. This is his story, and how he faced his dilemma. What Simon had going for him, was that many of his camp mates liked him, as did most of the counselors and administrators. Simon grew up that summer, and we go along with him.
I like Nathanael Green's writing and his stories. They are based on our everyday lives, and the lessons we learn. His writing is like reading a favorite author, we know we may be surprised, but the travel to the end is exciting and fulfilling. The characters for the most part are good kids, having fun and sometimes getting into trouble. We can relate to them, we have all been there. The escapades of Simon and his friends reach out to the reader, and I would recommend these stories to all adolescents. Good lessons learned.

Captures the challenges of navigating childhood relationships and adding the pressure of friends and peers. A very good short story.
